2002-Present:  Working with MAX/MSP and then Kyma

By this time, McLean had completely abandoned composing for performers, for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was that his standards of exacting balance, timbre, gesture and dynamics were higher than he could evoke with any kind of notation, traditional or not. The 2002 composition and performance (with Priscilla) of Autumn Requiem in dozens of venues by the McLean Mix ushered in a series of concert and installation works based on MAX/MSP, where he basically configured the high level software to fit his needs.  In 2012 he abandoned MAX/MSP in favor of the Symbolic Sound's Kyma system, in which he could actually create a sound module to fit his exact requirements.  The first effort, a video with Priscilla called Peter's People, used fairly traditional means, but later Kyma works branched out into the unknown and unheard worlds so seductively possible with Kyma.
