Spirals. 1973.

Dur: 20'.

Stereo audio composition

Originally composed as a quad tape. Now is stereo only. Premiered at Indiana University (1974). Recorded on CRI (CRI SD 335 LP). Now available on New World Records  (select "Priscilla and Barton McLean: Electronic Music") as CD one-off. 1st major classical work in the USA completely done on Synthi 100 synthesizer. Recorded on an 8 track Ampex 1 inch deck. Symphonic in nature, with a bit of a jazzy beat toward the end.  Performed in quad version also in 1974 at Bowling Green State University and at Miami of Ohio University with an ensemble called “The Mix” consisting of B & P McLean, David Cope, and Burt & Celeste Beerman.  Note how the YouTube image slowly, almost imperceptibly changes from beginning to end.
