In the classical music literature are embedded certain gems that defy classification in that they are unique in themselves.  Such is the case with "Danse Macabre"and certainly with Dukas's "The Sorcerer Apprentice."  McLean has long been an admirer of these single thrusts of genius, to the point where he just had to offer his own tribute to Dukas's work. So here it is.  At times the derivations are quite obvious, and at other times the work deviates to its own path.  Originally recorded on Orion Records, it was subsequently revised and released on Folkways ((Folkways FXM 36050 LP), where it can now be purchased from Folkways/Smithsonian. The music you are hearing now is a further revision done in 1985.
